Types of Forklifts
Forklifts are utilized to carry and transport heavy loads, usually within warehouses and construction sites. They are commonly found in material handling and other manufacturing industries. There are different types of forklifts used for different kinds of applications.
The biggest difference between forklifts is the way they are powered. Several are electric powered and some utilize internal combustion motors. For carrying heavy loads while maintaining minimum operating costs, electric forklifts are generally the best choice. Electric forklifts are most often found in indoor work sites. Internal combustion forklifts are recommended for outdoor uses.
Types of forklifts are motorized drive, manual drive and fork trucks. Fork trucks are motorized and have cabs and backup alarms. Motorized drive forklifts usually have a protected seat for the operator. Manual drive forklifts are powered manually.
Some forklifts are counterbalanced to prevent tipping over. Other safety features include handrails or turntables. Specialty forklifts are available for particular uses. For example, narrow aisle forklifts are designed to work in extremely tight spaces. Rough-terrain forklifts are really helpful on surfaces that are rocky and uneven.
