A kind of machinery in the material handling industry which could be used to lift and move loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Every forklift part has a specific function. Different parts can be used to move the load vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lower and lift the load. There are different kinds of masts for raising loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is situated inside the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is beneath the back of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is situated within the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located within the cab.
Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest components of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are situated at the rear in order to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
