History
During the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The original company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machinery. In 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years.
