Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are connected to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces such as hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machines use either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator should move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift use identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for surfaces that are uneven. These models also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This specific unit has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machine has a bucket or a small work platform which is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is really essential to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
